There's a little leftover solder flux on that side. Now when I plug it in, it's hot enough that the flux smokes. Seems like the WS is where it's warm at the 3.3v pin.

Do you think the WS is trashed?

If I have to replace it, just want to know if both are trashed or just the WS. I did notice for the few seconds I had it plugged in to check voltages that it send readings to the gateway so I'm assuming the Moteino is fine. As far as the connections:

VIN to VIN and ground to ground. Counting VIN as 1, solder 1,2,3, skip 4&5, solder 6, skip 7, solder 8,9,10. Is that correct?

I'm ordering a couple more since I think this one is fried. Want to make sure I have it perfect. Thanks

Warm or hot and low power don't go together. It means there is some short or some damage to one of the boards. It's actually pretty hard to damage them unless you hammer them.
See my comments in this post for some details on low power.

Let me know if it's not clear about the soldering.
If the moteino can be reprogrammed with any other sketch (try blinky first) that's a great sign. If you can load the sample node sketch and you can receive that from it (even if the WS is still attached) then that's even better, it would indicate the Moteino is good.
Otherwise I would desolder the shield and debug the moteino by itself, if it still can't send or upload, i'd deem it failed, the last chance would be trying to re-bootload it assuming something could have gone wrong with that part of it.

So looking at the pic, all of the header connections appear to be soldered except the last three on the right. I didn't have them all soldered. Could that be it? They didn't all appear to be soldered in another pic I saw. Maybe I'm just half blind. The mote must be good because in the few seconds I had it powered up to test voltages, it sent metrics to the gateway. I can assure you that I didn't hammer it. I know better than that.  I'm thinking of running it off of a 3xAA since I can get pretty much unlimited AA that are practically brand new for free at work

Actually the only connections required are GND, VIN, 3.3, A7 & A3 for the battery reader circuit, and SCL - SDA.

Felix I ordered a moteino, 2 WS and a dc jack. What would it cost to have you solder a mote and WS together so I don't screw it up. That is if it hasn't already shipped. Ordered on Feb 8th.

Yup, I would just solder female headers to the Moteino then some males to the WShield. Mate them that way, this allows you to better control what's going on until you have a handle on things.
When you are confident you can sandwich them together if that's required for saving some space.

Do you know if radio shack has female headers? I don't have any lying around

I don't know... but overall not a great place to shop for components in my experience.
Ebay or the common online retailers are a better place. Even my store stocks some common headers used in electronics.

Got the new ones and works perfect. I access my gateway on an iPhone.

@Kilo95 if you are looking for female headers suitable for stacking see https://lowpowerlab.com/forum/index.php/topic,1459.msg10165.html , they can be a bit hard to track down in longer lengths.
