range approximation ?

Just getting started - or not yet - just ordered a couple of Moteinos to use for home automation. BUT I searched the forum for information about range approximation. I would like to do triangulation of devices to find out where they are. Could you base this on signalstrength ? I dont need a mm perfection in any way, but +-1m or so in an open area of 100x100m or 50x50m or so...

Anyone tried this or have any information/ideas on how this could be done ?

It's possible but I haven't done it myself.
