POWER SURGE ON USB

I am getting this error when i plug in the Motionmote to my computer. it used to work. any ideas will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Use your continuity meter between the first and last pins of the USB connector on the MotionMote. If it beeps you have a short.
Also check that you have a good USB cable.
