SMT Soldering small devices

While I wait for the thermocouple amplifier to arrive, I thought I'd report that a modified "tack and reflow" soldering technique is working pretty well for me with the BQ25504 (which is what I'm using as a practice soldering proxy for the AB1815 until my AB1815 breakout board arrives).  The steps are:
1.  Precisely align the chip on the PCB
2.  Run a "fillet" of solder paste along one side of the chip
3.  Run it through the reflow oven to lock the chip into place.  Note: no "floating away" happens.
4.  After removing from the oven and letting it cool, run solder paste fillets along the other three sides.
5.  Manually melt the fresh paste into place by hand using a soldering pencil with a very thin, curved tip.  I suppose this step might also be done in the oven, but I haven't yet tried doing it that way because I wasn't sure if the first fillet (from step #2) would melt enough that "floating away" might happen because this time the other 3 sides are exposed to solder paste fillets.
