Title: RF Gateway won't talk to the Arduino IDE
Post by: knute on January 25, 2022, 12:45:09 PM
I bought an RF Gateway, soldered the antenna connector on and put it in the USB slot on my Linux computer.  I had all the software in the Arduino IDE from the M0 (I think) at least the RF Gateway shows up in the boards manager.  I can't get it to let me set a port, it's grayed out.  When I press and release the rst button I get about a half second of green light.  I'm stuck, anybody point me in the right direction?

Try quick double press. That puts it into bootloader, ready to accept your upload.
Same applies to all SAMD boards that are locked up, don't have a USB device active (bad/frozen sketch? board deep sleeping?....).

I'll try that Felix, thanks!

The double press on the RST button got the Arduino IDE to recognize the RF Gateway.  I managed to download a simple LED blink program and it works.

When I reset the RFG a window opens on the computer that looks like what I get when my RPi Pico has been set for program load.  The program loaded fine from the Arduino IDE but I'm getting a hard lockup on my computer.  The mouse won't move, the keyboard is dead, the only was to get it going again is to power off and back on.  It only happens when the RFG is plugged in.  The other interesting thing is that my computer won't boot with the RFG plugged in.

My intention is to use this device with a RaspberryPi 4 to communicate with some Moteinos.

Thanks.

Nothing like that happens with W10. The window showing up as a flash drive is the RFG exposing its firmware. It is standard UF2 bootloader that everyone uses. Do you have say another SAMD board with UF2 bootloader that you can compare with?

How that computer is setup to boot is a completely separate issue, you will need to check your BIOS so not allow booting from certain USB devices or disable that possibility entirely if you dont plan to boot from USB drives.
