measuring CurrentRanger's vbatt without opening the case

Hello, I'm a long time user of the CurrentRanger.  I bought it a few years ago and I've been happily using it for work and some hobby projects.  I'm using the R1 firmware with some tweaks.

Recently I've been doing long running current measurements with the CR hooked up to my bench Rigol DM3058E for averaging and logging.

I run the CR with a 1000mAh li-ion battery so my runtimes can be huge, however, after a few 12 hour sessions over a few days, my mind starts to drift and I can't remember what the battery level of the CR should be.  Roughing in some math, I should have 1000 / 18 (with LPF enabled) = 55 hours of runtime so you can see there's lot of room to forget how long the CR has been in use for.

Short of opening up the CR each time I want to check the battery voltage (or remembering how long I've had it turned on for), are there test points on the top of the board that would let me do a quick test?  If not: feature request?  ;)

Felix

Thanks for writing about your long term experience, happy to hear you're happy and the R1 CR is serving you well!

There's always been a test point on the CR which is VBAT and helps me during manufacture and testing. On the bottom it's more obvious but on the TOP it is smaller and masked. If you touch it with a DMM probe (and any other GND like on the serial or oled headers, or just the USB metal casing) then you should get a direct reading of the battery. Maybe you can even gently scrape the soldermask off but I think that's not really needed.

Thanks Felix!  It worked as you described.  No need to scratch off the solder mask.
