Title: Unmarked momentary button?
Post by: Boz on June 19, 2017, 09:28:33 AM
Hi can anyone help me, I have a momentary led power button that I'd like to use with the ATXraspi (2.7). There are 4 pins on the back of the button one is positive, one is negative and the other two have no markings on. I have no multimeter etc so my question is will I break anything if I wire it up wrong?

Momentary button + LED = anode - and cathode + for LED (it won't bright if inversed as no current will flow inseide LED) and one contact normally open (most often) so with 2 connections on each side.
The only risk I see is invert contact of button and LED, with voltage than produce too much current in LED.

Thanks for the reply, so the umarked pins are for the button itself...without referring to the install video does these 2 pins have polarity or does it not matter?

I guess polarity doesn't matter, standards buttons are not polarised, it's only a contact, no polarity like a simple wire, as lack of marking suggests it

The 2 pins polarity doesn't matter for the button, so you can hook it any way to the topleft 2 pins of the 4 pin header (up to the current Atxraspi 2.7).
But don't hook that up to anything else or you can destroy the board by causing a short or overload.
